Case Study
An existing carpeted stair rebuilt as a clean oak-and-metal feature that connects two levels of the home.
- Challenge
- The original stair was carpeted, with inconsistent rise heights and a heavy closed balustrade that cut light out of the entry.
- Approach
- The stair was stripped back and measured individually, riser by riser, so the new treads could correct the inconsistencies rather than repeat them.
- Execution
- New oak treads and painted risers were fitted one at a time, with a nosing profile chosen to match the adjacent flooring. Railing mounting points were coordinated before finishing began.
- Result
- A stair that reads as part of the architecture rather than a leftover circulation element, with light carrying through the entry.
