Case Study

An existing carpeted stair rebuilt as a clean oak-and-metal feature that connects two levels of the home.

Challenge
The original stair was carpeted, with inconsistent rise heights and a heavy closed balustrade that cut light out of the entry.
Approach
The stair was stripped back and measured individually, riser by riser, so the new treads could correct the inconsistencies rather than repeat them.
Execution
New oak treads and painted risers were fitted one at a time, with a nosing profile chosen to match the adjacent flooring. Railing mounting points were coordinated before finishing began.
Result
A stair that reads as part of the architecture rather than a leftover circulation element, with light carrying through the entry.
